Ivy Dictation, published by Glow.co. Last updated 17 October 2026.
Ivy collects nothing. It has no account, no analytics, no ads and no servers. Your voice and your text stay on your computer.
Your voice
When you hold the dictation key, Ivy records from your microphone and turns the recording into text with a speech model that runs on your own computer. The audio is never uploaded anywhere. Once a dictation is done, the audio held in memory is overwritten.
What Ivy keeps on your computer
- History: your recent dictations and their recordings, so you can copy or retry them. They are deleted automatically after 24 hours, or after up to 7 days if you choose that. Clear all in History deletes them at once.
- Settings, personal dictionary and snippets: the words and shortcuts you add yourself.
- Stats: plain numbers such as words dictated and your streak, stored separately from your text.
All of this lives in Ivy's folder on your PC. Nobody else, including us, can see it. Uninstalling the Microsoft Store version removes it; the GitHub setup's uninstaller asks whether to delete it.
Internet use
- Microsoft Store version: the speech model is installed with the app, so Ivy itself does not connect to the internet at all. The Microsoft Store handles updates.
- Version from GitHub: on first start Ivy downloads its speech model from Ivy's GitHub releases. After that it goes online only if you press Check for updates in Settings, which asks GitHub for the latest version number. GitHub sees a normal web request from your computer, as with any download. Ivy sends nothing about you.
Clipboard
Ivy pastes your text into the app you are typing in by using the clipboard for a moment. Its pastes are marked so they stay out of Windows clipboard history and clipboard cloud sync.
Children
Ivy does not collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes and contact
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date. Questions or concerns: open an issue on Ivy's GitHub page. For a security problem, please report it privately through GitHub security advisories.
